Illinois Compiled Statutes

This page will walk you through how to find statutes through Illinois' Compiled Statutes Page on the General Assembly website. You can access statutes through the Illinois Compiled Statutes page.


 

Step 1:

Begin on the Homepage for the Illinois Compiled Statutes, and find the correct chapter. This should be the first number in your citation. For this example, we will look for 720 ILCS 5/4-8. You will need to find Chapter 720.

Step 2:

Find the act which contains your statute, and click on it. This will be the number directly after 'ILCS.' In our example, it's statute 5.

Step 3:

Find the section which contains your statute (sometimes called an article). This should be the number directly after the slash mark (/). In our example, it's sections 4-8.

Step 4:

Scroll down until you find the right statute. If a section has multiple parts, as this one does, You need to find the specific section that you're interested in. Scroll until you find the full text of the section for which you are looking.
