Troubleshooting Problems - First Steps

Is the...
... Collaboration Station plugged in to the wall?
... monitor plugged in to the wall?
... monitor turned on?
... monitor on the correct input*?
 
Did you...
... connect the correct cord/adapter to your device?
... press the red button to display your device on the monitor?
... try all the cords on the station?
... try a different computer (library laptop, someone else's laptop, etc.)?
... try a different collaboration station?
 
Is your device still not displaying on the monitor?

*The input you want is "PC." To change the input, use the remote and press the "Source" button until "PC" is selected.

For Library Staff

Library Staff: Please refer all patron complaints about collaboration stations to the LITS Help Desk. Note the station number (printed on the sign next to the station) and the type of device (PC or Mac) the patron was using.

Troubleshooting Problems - Next Steps for Apple Devices

My Apple device won't display

For Apple laptops, you will need to use a Mini Displayport adapter, attach it to the VGA or HDMI cord, then connect the adapter to your laptop. Push the red button to display your screen.

If your device still won't display, follow the steps below.

1. Open System Preferences

2. Click on Displays

3a. Click on the Arrangement Tab                 
and check Mirror Displays                             
(OS X Lion and Snow Leopard)

3b. Click on the Display Tab and turn AirPlay Mirroring on (OS X Mountain Lion)

Troubleshooting Problems - Next Steps for Windows Devices

My Windows Device Won't Display

For Windows laptops, you will need to connect using the 15-pin VGA connector or HDMI cord. Then push the red button to display your screen. If your screen does not display, first try holding down the Function button (Fn) and pressing the F1-F12 key that has the computer monitor logo on it at the same time.

If your device still won't display, follow the steps below (Windows 7).

1. Open Control Panel

 

2. Click on Appearance and Personalization

 

 

3. Click on Display

 

4. Click on Detect

5. Under Multiple Displays, click on Duplicate These Displays. Click Apply, then OK.
