Start from Milner's homepage and make sure the Catalog tab is selected. Click the Advanced Search link at the bottom of that box.
This search frame will look the same for the catalog, Article Search, and Combined Search. You will know you're in the right search engine if the Library Catalog button is selected. Enter keywords into the search boxes:
If the search results turn out not to be relevant to your research question, try coming up with different keywords that address your topic in a different way (ex: sustainability vs. renewable resources). Milner also may not have books on your specific topic. If that is the case, change the radio button at the top of the search box from Library Catalog to All I-share Libraries. This will add books that you can request from other libraries to the search results (print only).
This brings up the search results. Each result will include the title, author, and location information. Look at call numbers to get an idea of the research area of the book. Books that are "available online" are ebooks that can be viewed online. You can further limit your results using the filters on the right:
Clicking the title of the book will show you the full record for each title.
Print books will list the location information. Ebooks will include a button to get to the PDF. There will be more specific information under the availability information. Look out for the Subjects section to get more ideas for keywords. Look at the Contents section to see the chapter titles.
Need an introduction or overview to a topic before you start looking for in-depth sources? A reference book may be able to help. Use either of the databases below to find reference books that include chapters relevant to your research topic.
