Local Public Libraries: Bloomington-Normal

If you live in Bloomington or Normal, you may sign up for a library card through their respective public libraries. The public libraries also allow you to borrow materials from other public libraries within their network so if your specific home library doesn't have something you're looking for, they may be able to get it from another library!

Get a Card at Bloomington Public Library:

Library cards are available to residents of the City of Bloomington (Illinois) and residents of the Golden Prairie Public Library District. (The Golden Prairie Public Library District includes most residents of the following townships: Arrowsmith, Bloomington, Dale, Dawson, and Old Town).

Acceptable forms of identification include a valid Illinois driver's license or other government-issued photo ID with current address, a recent utility bill, a signed lease agreement, a personalized check, or recent mail with postmark. Bloomington Public Library reserves the right not to issue a library card to anyone who cannot provide identification and/or address verification. The Library also reserves the right to restrict the borrowing privileges of any person who has overdue materials and/or has accumulated fees.

Library Cards & Borrowing at Normal Public Library:

Your library card gives you access to all of the resources available to the community at the Normal Public Library. Anyone who lives in Normal is able to get a Normal Public Library card.

If you are 18 or over, you’ll need to show a photo ID and proof of your Normal address. Proof of address can be a bill, a piece of mail, a lease agreement, your driver’s license or a state ID, or your checkbook. If you are under 18, you will need to bring a parent or legal guardian. You do not need to show a photo ID or proof of address, but your parent or legal guardian does.

College students are encouraged to get library cards!  As long as your dorm, apartment, or house is in Normal, you are entitled to a Normal Public Library card. Be sure to bring along a photo ID and proof of your current Normal address the first time you visit us each school year.
