What's in this Guide
This course guide is meant to directly support two of the main opportunities for learning in TCH 207 - Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Middle Level Classrooms. It also provides some linked resources that may help with the News/Media Analysis Group Presentation.
- Diversity in Young Adult LiteratureYou will select and read two (2) young adult novels that address diverse perspectives and populations of young adolescents. For each novel, you will complete a reading review and response that incorporates critical perspectives. A suggested list of titles will be provided.
- Analysis of English Language Learner MaterialsYou will conduct an analysis of materials in Milner Library and consider how they support learning in the classroom, especially for English language learners. There will be a few different options for this assignment.
You will submit a written summary of your analysis. Additional information will be provided. - News/Media Analysis Group PresentationWorking in small groups, you will select one of the topics of the course and research the issue within the context of current events and news stories. Your group will make a presentation to the class in which they present and discuss the news stories and provide a critical analysis within the context of the course content. Additional information will be provided.
