POL 442 - Topics In Comparative Politics (Sarfati)

This is a basic walkthrough for navigating Milner's library catalog. Start from the Library Website, and make sure that the "Milner Catalog" tab is selected on the main search box. If you're more comfortable using the basic search box, simply enter your keywords and search. However, if you click the Advanced Search link in the bottom of the box, you'll have far more search options.

From the advanced search page, you will have several ways of specifying your search preferences. The list of radio buttons at the top will let you specify which search location to search within. Milner Catalog will bring books back. The dropdown menu to the left of the search boxes will let you determine whether you want to use keywords (general terminology) or subjects (specific terminology). The dropdown menus on the right side of the page will let you further specify the material. For example, Material Type will let you specify that you want books, journals, etc. 

The search results page will show you what books come up based on your search. You can see the availability and location of each book below the cover art for each item. This will also show you which books are print or electronic. If you wanted to limit your search even further, you can with the options on the right side of the screen. Examples of limiters are Subjects, Location in the building, or Availability (print or electronic resources). Clicking the book title will show you the record page.

Clicking the title of each item will show you the record page for that item, including more specific details about it. The Get it section will show you how to get the book. In the example below, this is an e-book. Click the "view full text" button to see the full text. the list of Subjects will show you the subjects that describe the book. You can click on a topic to see other books that share the topic.
