Images labeled as open access, copyright free, or public domain can be used without getting permission and restriction. However, some images cannot be sold or used in commercial products or for commercial purposes. Read the use licensing when available and for projects, cite the images.

Creative Commons Images on Flickr

Flickr contains millions of photographs and many photographers have licensed their images under a Creative Commons licenses.

Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that works "to increase the amount of creativity (cultural, educational, and scientific content) in “the commons” — the body of work that is available to the public for free and legal sharing, use, repurposing, and remixing." Creative Commons licenses provide a way for people to share their work and make it available for others to build on and reuse.
