ProQuest Ebook Central

Ebook Central offers a range of different types of ebook licenses.  Some can only be used by a limited number of users (e.g. one, two, or three), while others can be used by many or unlimited numbers of users simultaneously.  If there is a limit, it will appear on the ebook's page:

If the book is already being used by too many people, you will see a message telling you that no copies are available.  You will not be able to read or download the book until someone else is done using it.  When the book is available, simply select "Read Online."

Copying, printing, and downloading privileges vary by publisher and title, but will be listed near the top.  You will usually be allowed to download approximately 30% of the book daily.  Some publishers will allow you to make PDFs of as much as 40% of the book if you are logged into an Ebook Central account.  You can see exact number in the "Availability" section of the page.

You can copy (text only) up to 15% of most books ,or 20% if you log into your Ebook Central account.  You can choose to copy a page at a time, or just selected text within a page.

If a book is listed as Available for Full Download, you'll be able to check it out for 1-3 days at a time.  In order to do so you'll need an Adobe ID and Adobe Digital Editions.

All of these options are available within the Reader View as well.  In the Ebook Central Reader, use Chapter Download or Print to PDF.  If you can't select the current chapter, you can enter the page range instead before you save or print.  You can also indicate your preferred citation style, which will be included at the bottom of each page.

On the left side of the screen you will find an option to cite the book.  Ebook Central will automatically generate a citation for you in APA, MLA, Chicago/Turabian, Harvard, or Vancouver style.  You may also directly export the citation to RefWorks or EndNote.

On the left side of the reader window the display defaults to the table of contents.  There is also a book icon, which will take you to the "Book Details," a star icon that will display your saved annotations, and a magnifying glass icon that enables you to search quickly within the book.

Buttons along the top of the screen allow you to download the entire book, download individual chapters, copy, print to PDF, add the book to your account's bookshelf, share the direct link to the book, generate a citation, highlight, add notes, bookmark, and zoom.
