Keep Current with your Research: Using Alerts

This guide will help you create an alert or notification when materials of interest to you have been published or added to a database, websites, new publications within parameters of previous successful searches, etc.

Alerts by Vendor

Many vendors offer alert features. This makes it easier to stay up to date on multiple journals at the same time.

First find a list of databases a vendor provides:

Alexander Street Press

To create alerts:

  1. Click on the words Alexander Street at the top of the web page
  2. Click on the icon of a person—located at top of the web page on the far right
  3. Click on Create New Account

Ebsco

To create alerts:
1. Click on Sign In--located at the top of the web page.
2. Then Create an Account

ProQuest

To create alerts:
1. Click on the symbol of a person—located top right of the web page
2. Sign into My Research.
3. Create a My Research Account

Thomson Reuters

Each of the databases provides alerts a little differently.  Some are the same as Web of Science (click on Sign In and the Register) or look under the the icon of a person,

 

 

Saving a search

You can save a (successful) search and receive alerts based upon the parameters of that search.

Generally, to save a search, you need a free account.  Below, are the major database vendors with the accompanying instructions.

Ebsco

Sign into your account.

No account?   To create an account:
a. Click on Sign In--located at the top of the web page.
b. Then Create an Account

Click Preferences--located at the top right of the web page

ProQuest

Sign into your account.

No account?  To create an account:

a. Click on the symbol of a person—located top right of the web page
b. Sign into My Research.
c. Create a My Research Account
