How to Request Items via Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

ILL Request with a Reference

This video shows you how to request an article, book chapter, book, film, or music via interlibrary loan when you have the author, title, and other information.

From the Library's home page, click the Library Accounts button under the Start Your Research section.

On the Library Accounts page, scroll down to Interlibrary Loan and click the Access your Interlibrary Loan Account button.

Next click Illinois State University.

If prompted, log in via Central Login.

Click the Create Request button.

Choose the type of item you want to request.

Fill in the form.

Required items have an asterisk.

A quick note about the Needed Before Date. If library staff are not able to find the item by the date you input, they will cancel the request.

Select your department or school from the Department/Major dropdown.

Click the Submit Request button.

You’ll get an email message to your ISU email account letting you know the article pdf is ready to download from your interlibrary account.

Or the physical item can be picked up at the Service Desk on Floor 2 at Milner Library.

Most article requests take about 3 - 7 days and most book requests take about 7-14 days to arrive.

To track your requests, look in the Status column.

To cancel the request, click the Request Details link and click the Cancel Request button.

Make an ILL Request via LibKey

This video shows you how to request an article if Milner Library does not have online or print access.

If the full text of an article isn’t available, click the 'Check ISU for Full Text with Libkey’ option.

If you are redirected to a record via Milner’s search interface and no View Online option is available, then you need request the article via interlibrary loan.

Scroll to the bottom of the page.

Click the Submit an interlibrary loan request link.

Click the Illinois State University button.

If prompted, login via Central Login.

In the request form you will notice that most of the required fields are already filled in.

All you need to do is select your major or department.

Then click the Submit Request button.

It’s important to note that most article requests take about 3 - 7 days to be processed and delivered.

You’ll get an email message to your ISU email account letting you know the article pdf is ready to download from your interlibrary account.
