Accessing articles

Skimming & Selecting

  • Look for clues on the source's information page (record) such as: abstract; subject headings; journal title - all can point to primary subject matter
  • Check the date. Is this outdated relative to the topic? Has anything been written more recently?
  • If unsure about the author, run a quick Google search to learn more about them
  • When reading, start with the introduction and conclusion to further determine usefulness
  • If a source doesn't fit your topic you don't have to use it
