How to Find an Article with a Reference

This video will show you how to find an article when you already know the title, author, and other information and the article doesn’t come up in Journal Articles Search on the first search or after choosing Expand Beyond Milner Library under Tweak your results on the results list.

In the rare case that your article still doesn’t appear, try our Citation Finder tool.

From the Library’s home page, choose Research next to Home.

Scroll down to Journals, Magazines, and Newspapers and choose Citation Finder.

This is the Citation Finder tool.  Fill out the form with information that you have about your article.

You don’t need to have all of the information.

Make sure you spell titles and authors correctly because if the information isn’t correct, this tool may not find the article even if Milner Library does have access.

When you finish filling out the form, choose Submit.

This will search all of our subscriptions to see if we have the online full text of the article.

Scroll down and look for View Online to see if we have online access to your article.

In this example, you can get the full text from two different places.

One is a database and the other is a journal publisher website.

Select the name of the publisher website or database you want to view.

Whether you are on or off campus, this will take you to the Milner Library electronic resources login page.

Choose Milner Library at Illinois State University.

Login with Central Login.

The more information you provide about your article, the more likely it is that you will go directly to the article, as in this example, rather than to the main page for your article’s journal where you need to find the article.

If you have questions, use the Ask a Milner Librarian options on the library website to contact a Milner Librarian via live chat, text, email, or phone, contact your subject librarian, or view our FAQs. Or, visit the Service Desk as you enter the library. We're happy to help!

Find a Full-Text Article with LibKey

This video shows you how to find a full text article using the Milner Library LibKey feature.

You can use LibKey within most library databases.

Some of the articles are available in full text and designated by the Access Now button

Many times, the Access options drop down menu provides a link to both the PDF and HTML versions of an article.

Other articles may not link to full text.

This is indicated with the words 'Check ISU for Full Text with Libkey’ in the Access Options drop down menu

When you click the link, it checks other databases for access to the full text article.
If the full text is available, you may see a direct link to the pdf

Click the link to view the article.

Or you might be directed to Milner’s search interface to access the full text

Click the link in the View Online section to access the article.

If you are directed to the journal’s home page, find the volume and issue on the article record.

Then navigate to the correct volume and issue on the journal’s page.

If you have questions, contact a Milner Librarian via live chat, text, email, or phone, or contact your subject librarian, or view our FAQs.
