How to Find a Print Journal by Title

This video will show you how to find a print copy of a journal or magazine when you already know the title.  Print journals are not typically available for checkout, but you can scan articles from print journals for free using our scanner stations on Floors 2-6.

  • From the Library's home page, go to search box under Start Your Research.
  • Change the Everything dropdown to Milner Catalog.
  • Enter the title of the journal you would like to find. I’m going to look for Nature.
  • Choose the magnifying glass.
  • Select the title of the journal you would like to look at.
  • To view volumes of a journal or magazine that are available online, check for a View Online section and choose a link beneath Full text availability.
  • Whether you are on or off campus, this will take you to the Milner Library electronic resources access page. Choose Milner Library at Illinois State University.
  • On the Central Login page, login with your ULID and password.
  • You should now have online access to the journal you would like to view.
  • To view Milner Library’s print volumes of the journal, scroll down to Get It.
  • To find periodicals in Floor 2 Current Periodicals and the Floors 3-6 shelves, check to see if they’re available. If they are, note the call number and use it to find the journal on the shelves.
  • Choose a location to see the volumes and years shelved there. Choose Back to Locations to go back to the list of locations.
  • The newest issues of our periodicals are in the Floor 2 Current Periodicals section. Choose a location to see the volumes and years shelved there.
  • Older bound volumes of our periodicals are on the shelves on Floors 3-6, in this case Floor 5 shelves, and in storage.
  • You can access Items from Storage North and Closed Stacks by requesting them online.

In this case, I have two options for Harvard Business Review.

Harvard Business Review and Harvard Business Review Digital Articles

I am going to choose Harvard Business Review Digital Articles.

Scroll down to View Online to see Milner Library databases that have full text access to your journal.

Choose the name of the database you would like to use to access the full text of your journal.

Whether you are on or off campus, this will take you to the Milner Library electronic resources login page.

Choose Milner Library at Illinois State University.

Login with Central Login.

You should then see the database page for your journal.

If you want to search for articles about a topic within the journal, look for a search within this publication option.

If you have a specific issue you want to view, choose the year you would like to view, then select the specific volume or issue.
