Milner Library subscribes to various newspapers both online and on microfilm. 

   The microfilm for most newspapers is located on Floor 2 or in Basement Storage. 

 Microfilm of newspapers may also be borrowed from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan.  

1.    Historical New York Times (1851-2016).

2.   Historical Chicago Tribune (1849-1997).

 

3.  Chicago Defender.  (Online)    1910 - 1975.   

4 Newspapers.Com Illinois Collection (1808-2009).  
        Includes Daily Pantagraph (Bloomington, Il.) and other newspapers from across the state; years of coverage vary with individual newspapers.

5 Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers.

 

Magazines

 Popular magazines, such as Time, Newsweek, Life, Harper's, Atlantic Monthly, New Republic, Nation, etc., may be good sources of articles from a specific time period.  Most popular magazines are indexed in Readers’ Guide Abstracts..  Check this database first to identify articles published on your topic.  Note that magazines from earlier years may be in storage or on microfilm.  Microfilm or print copies in storage must be requested online.
