This resource provides basic intelligence on the history, people, government, economy, energy, geography, environment, communications, transportation, military, terrorism, and transnational issues for 266 world entities.

FAO Stat

Statistics from the Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.  Search for Commodities by Country to find agricultural statistics.


A wide-ranging directory and data source maintained by Michigan State University.  The COUNTRIES section contains individual country profiles, statistics, economics, history, culture, business risk, corporations, trade statistics, and more. Also provides links to the Country Commercial Grade for each country. The INDUSTRIES section provides background information, risk description, trade statistics, and more about the Apparel and Textiles Industry.

Allows searching by country, industry, market research and free trade agreements plus much more. Provides guides for doing business in various countries.

Country Studies/Area Handbooks

Many of these titles are over ten years old; best used for geographic, historical, and cultural/social information. Milner Library often has print copies of these books.

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is a unique forum where the governments of 37 democracies with market-based economies collaborate to develop policy standards to promote sustainable economic growth. Provides information on economic states of member countries.

International Monetary Fund 

The IMF is a global organization that works to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity for all of its 190 member countries. It does so by supporting economic policies that promote financial stability and monetary cooperation, which are essential to increase productivity, job creation, and economic well-being.
