Helpful training materials and information for new librarians

SED Tests

SED Tests

There is a collection of Special Education assessment instruments in the workroom on the 6th floor. These materials are used by special education students enrolled in specific classes and are not available to individuals in other majors. All of the assessments require a reservation prior to use by faculty or students.

Ways that students and faculty may ask for the tests include:

  • SED - Special Education
  • PPVT - Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test ( does not circulate)
  • Basal and ceiling - These are the starting and ending points of an assessment and are part of what students are expected to figure as they score their tests. For questions, refer them to the instructor or Sarah French.
  • Students may call these “tests”, “assessments”, or refer to them by name or initials. When in doubt, ask for clarification.
  • Mental Measurements Yearbook/Tests in Print- used for researching assessments, under Education database

When in doubt about a question, ask for the department, course number and/or instructor’s name.

Reserving SED Tests

Checking Out SED Tests

  • Students must pick the tests up on the tests' scheduled reservation date.
  • SED tests are held at the circulation desk for student pickup.
  • If a student does not pick up a test at the designated and agreed upon time, that student must contact MilnerSED@ilstu.edu to see whether the test is still available and to arrange a new pick-up time.
  • The check out period for SED Tests can be no longer than 2 weeks.  The decision about the checkout period will be based upon the number of people who may need to use the item and the time of the semester

Returning SED Tests

  • Patrons must return their SED tests to the Circulation Desk.  The tests may not be returned in the library book returns.
