Reference Desk Collection and Government Documents

Desk Reference Books

Patrons can check out reference books and government documents from the book shelves at the Floor 2 reference desk, but must only use them inside the library.

Checkout: When a patron wants to check out a Floor 2 desk reference book or government document, first ask to see a photo ID.  After they show their ID, take the yellow card out of the book and have the patron write his or her name and the date on that card.  Place the filled out card in the drawer at your side of the desk.

Return: When a patron returns a Floor 2 desk reference book, get out the book's checkout card from your drawer and use a black Sharpie marker to cross out the patron’s name before replacing the card back in the returned book.

Maps

Maps

Patrons may check out Floor 4 maps for two weeks.

Checkout: Have the patron fill out a “Map Check-Out Form” from the plastic folder on the shelves behind the Floor 2 reference desk.  The patron must provide his or her local address and phone number.  On the bottom half of the form, have the patron list the maps he or she is checking out.  For each map, include the Title of map (or country, city, etc.), Type of map (topographic, geological, political, etc. if known), Scale (if given on map), and Date of map.

After the patron has completed the form, write in the date due (two weeks from current date), detach the white page and leave it in the plastic file labeled “Map Checkout Forms.”

Get a map tube from the Floor 4 Workroom in a box on the left when you enter the workroom and place the map in it.

Return:  When maps are returned to the Reference Desk, please place them on the Government Documents cart behind the circulation desk.

If you have any questions, please ask Vanette Schwartz.
